Welcome to The Rainbow Poems!
The online poetry space for anyone going through change or uncertainty in life
Who we are and what we do
Hi! We are The Rainbow Poems, a volunteer-run online poetry space for anyone going through life change or uncertainty. So many people are looking to express their worries in a creative way at the moment, through lockdown and beyond. We encourage that and in fact our founder, Lucy, has done the same after her own life "swerve". We provide our readers with poetry content that discusses change, uncertainty, loss, grief - and also beauty, hope and acceptance.
We are a welcoming and supportive community so if this sounds like your cup of tea, why not send us your work for consideration?
We charge no reading or submission fee - all we ask is that your piece is your own original work, is not published or subject to third party copyright restrictions and that you grant The Rainbow Poems non-exclusive rights to publish the work.
What to submit and how to submit it
You can use Submittable to present up to three pieces of work for consideration.
One file either .doc, .docx, or .rtf can be submitted at a time.
Please do not submit in .PDF unless it is absolutely necessary e.g. visual artwork or shape poem. This format creates a lot of work for our small team of volunteers to reformat and takes up the limited time and resources we have available.
What happens after submitting work
Firstly, all submitted pieces will be read, thought about and appreciated!
Submission of your work does not guarantee that it will be published on the website. We will endeavour to respond to all messages as soon as possible, but please be patient. Due to volume of submissions, you may not hear from us for about two to eight weeks.
The Rainbow Poems website is a voluntary initiative and not for profit. The website is free to use for its readers and members. As such any submissions of work are kindly contributed free of charge for the benefit of the readership / membership. We do not charge a reading fee or a submission fee.
If your piece is to be published, it will be formatted in line with the website’s design (house style). No editorial changes will be made without prior discussion. All decisions of The Rainbow Poems reviewer are final and we will not enter into further communication about rejected work - please be understanding about this and do not be discouraged. It’s just a question of available time for us and not a comment about the quality of your work.
If your piece is accepted for publication, you will receive an email to confirm this. Our current turnaround for publication is some weeks and we will send you a further email to confirm when your work is live on the website.
How we may use your accepted work
In submitting your work you are requesting for it to be published on The Rainbow Poems website and granting us non-exclusive rights to reproduce the work. This includes for example sharing it on social media.
You are also confirming that it is your own original work and not subject to restrictions on publication as a Rainbow Poem (e.g. copyright owned by a third party).
